My Mixed Media Portfolio

Wanderings Series

‘Wanderings’ is a series that has long been stirring in me. I enjoy being with my camera and taking photos of seemingly odd collections of strange objects or places that would never go into a family album.  Incorporating them into my often gnarly, textured underpaintings created with old letters, papers and stamps has given life to a blend of painting and my own photography.

Marshlands Series

The ‘Marshlands’ series is the mystery that fog creates between land and water. I have lived my adult life where the ocean blends into the shores creating many inlets. It gives many areas of interest to see but invariably opens up the vast background to many curious places to explore.

My Rusty Life Series

This series has been an exploration into abstract painting with the printed word showing through as readable. I love typography in my work but often leave it so that it is softened under many layers of paint and not as obvious as I have with this series. I have found gems in these old 1929 newspapers that I want left for all to see, find and remember.

Canadian Background Series

I have been across Canada at different times and seasons and have had seen it reveal itself in many ways. I am drawn to the earth tones of the Prairies and memorized by the mountains. It is a topic I can keep going back to when the mood strikes me.

Shores Series

I don’t go a day without seeing the ocean or mountains where I am currently living. I am thankful everyday for where I come from and where I live, Mother Earth amazes me.  I enjoy walking to the water’s edge while the tide is out and interpreting through painting the my perspective of looking back at the shoreline.

Walls Series

It isn’t a secret, I love old walls. Inside, outside, graffiti-ed, peeling plaster or mossy brick. Exposed walls make me wonder ooohh and aahhh. I stare at them, photograph them, run my hands over them (unless there is a crowd) then dream with paint to replicate small sections. I like to call it my love of ‘urban nature’.

Quaint Petites

In this collection of ‘Petites’ some of these pieces coordinate with a series and and others are independent, as once in a while I’m in a mood to paint something totally different. Sometimes I need a distraction and will pick up a forgotten piece and work on that for awhile.

Commissioned Pieces

I work from photos you provide along with a full description in order to create a piece. A detailed narrative from you is necessary to create a painting that captures the feeling that you are looking for.
